Draft Previews

Atlanta Falcons

Last season - 9 - 7 2nd in NFC South

Team needs - DL, WR, C, S, CB, OLB

Players in - Dunta Robinson CB, Matt Giodano DB.

Players out - Tye Hill CB.

Draft Positions

4th Round : 19th pick
5th Round : 18th pick, 34th pick
6th Round : 2nd pick, 20th pick

Total : 8 picks

Looking through the draft needs of the Falcons and comparing them to the players in list, I notice that they have already addressed the DB (i.e CB, S) problem.  Therefore the remaining positions are DL, WR, C, OLB.  The DL option would probably be Georgia Tech's Derrick Morgan, the WR would be Dez Bryant, the C would be Florida's Maurkice Pouncey and the OLB would be a reach, whichever was chosen.  I believe looking at this list of players, that the Falcons will have to choose Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant.  Bryant is a top quality WR, and will give the Falcons QB Matt Ryan a big time playmaker to play with.

Houston Texans

Last Season - 9 - 7 in AFC South

Team needs - OL, DT, RB, S, CB, OLB

Players in - Neil Rackers K, Wade Smith G.

Players out - Dunta Robinson CB, Rex Grossman QB.

Draft Positions :

1st Round : 20th pick
2nd Round : 19th pick
3rd Round : 17th pick
4th Round : 20th pick
5th Round : 19th pick
6th Round : 18th pick, 28th pick
7th Round : 20th pick

Total : 8 picks.

Again looking at the positions of need for this team, along with the list of players out, you see that CB was a position of need anyway, couple this with the fact that they have lost Dunta Robinson, and I think its safe to say the Texans need a CB.  Luckily for them, still on the board (according to my mock draft) is Boise States Kyle Wilson.  Kyle has been ranked as a mid to late first round draft pick, so this seems to be a perfect fit here.

So they are the previews for the Falcons and Texans.  Not long to wait now, just 8 days until the 1st Round of the draft.  Make sure you send your mock drafts to nflgbview@googlemail.com before 6pm on Thursday 22nd April.  The winner of the mock draft competition will receive an entry into the 'UK's Best NFL Fan' Fantasy Football League.

Draft Previews

Tennessee Titans

Last season - 8 - 8 3rd in AFC South

Team needs - LB, OL, DL, S, CB

Players in - Will Witherspoon MLB, Ricky Schmitt K, Tye Hill CB, Jason Babin DE.

Players out - Chris Davis WR, Kyle Vanden Bosch DE, Alge Crumpler TE.

Draft Positions :

1st Round : 16th pick
3rd Round : 13th pick, 33rd pick
4th Round : 13th pick
5th Round : 17th pick
6th Round : 16th pick, 38th pick
7th Round : 15th pick, 34th pick

Total : 9 picks

I believe that the direction that the Titans will chose to go here is with a DE.  When you look at their needs list they have addressed the LB need (Will Witherspoon) and the CB need (Tye Hill), leaving OL, DL, S.  The best 2 S (in my opinion) will be off the board here, and the next one will be a reach.  So that leaves OL and DL.  When you look at players lost though and see the name Kyle Vanden Bosch, you realise fast that he has to be replaced.  Also when you think that (again in my opinion) all the DE will still be on the board, it makes sense that they will get the best player in a position of need.  The question now is which DE to pick.  Would it be the in-exposed but highly talented Jason Pierre-Paul from South Florida, or would it be Georgia Tech's Derrick Morgan.  More is known about Morgan, and he is seen as a solid player, but I believe that the Titans will take Pierre-Paul.  His workouts have been very impressive and he is an impressive human being.  Although he hasn't had much big game experience I believe this player could be very special.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Last season - 9 - 7 3rd in AFC North

Team needs - OL, MLB, S, CB

Players in - Larry Foote MLB, Antwaan Randel El WR, Arnaz Battle WR, Jonathan Scott T, Will Allen S.

Players out - Willie Parker RB, Santonio Holmes WR.

Draft Positions :

1st Round : 18th pick
2nd Round : 20th pick
3rd Round : 18th pick
4th Round : 18th pick
5th Round : 20th pick, 33rd pick, 35th pick
6th Round: 19th pick
7th Round : 18th pick, 35th pick

Total : 10 picks

Looking at the needs of the Steelers against the players in list, the only position of need not addresses is the CB position.  Also with only Joe Haden off the board at this position (again according to my mock draft) I believe they will look at the next best CB, Boise States Kyle Wilson.  Wilson, according to scouts, is defiantly 1st round material, and will be able to start immediately in the NFL.  I think this will suit the Steelers down to the ground.

There is only 6 days left to vote for your team to be announced the 'UK's Team'.  Show your support on the right hand side of the screen.  Also make sure you email in your 1st round mock drafts to - nflgbview@googlemail.com for your chance to win a spot in the 'UK's Best Fan' Fantasy Football competition.  Getting the players draft position correct is worth 1 point, and the player with the most points wins.

Draft Previews

San Francisco 49'ers

Last season - 8 - 8 2nd in the NFC West

Team needs - OL, CB, S, QB, OLB

Players in - Karl Paymah CB, David Carr QB.

Players out - Marcus Hudson DB, Tony Pashos T, Arnaz Battle WR, Ricky Smitt K.

Draft Positions :

1st Round : 13th pick, 17th pick
2nd Round : 17th pick
3rd Round : 15th pick
4th Round : 15th pick
5th Round : 14th pick
6th Round : 13th pick, 37th pick.
7th Round : 17th pick

Total : 9 picks.

I think that if Florida CB Joe Haden is still on the board at this position, there is no doubt that he will be a 49'er.  CB is probably the biggest need for the team, and the next best player on the board just happens to be a CB, how lucky.  Easy pick - Haden to the 49'ers.

New York Giants

Last season - 8 - 8 3rd in NFC East

Team needs - LB, S, TE, CB, RB, WR, T

Players in - Antrel Rolle S, Jim Sorgi QB, Deon Grant S.

Players out - David Carr QB, Darcey Johnson TE, Fred Robbins DT, Kevin Dockery CB.

Draft Positions :

1st Round : 15th pick
2nd Round : 14th pick
3rd Round : 12th pick
4th Round : 17th pick
5th Round : 16th pick
6th Round : 15th pick
7th Round : 14th pick

Total : 7 picks

This is a difficult decision for the Giants.  Their major needs are LB, S, and TE.  I would imagine that they would like to take a LB as the Giants defence, after being the strength of the team in its 'Superbowl' run, has become a weakness.  I would have thought that they would love to get an ILB after cutting Antonio Pearce.  The best player at this position is Rolando McClain, but I believe he will already be off the board.  The next best player may be Penn States Sean Lee, but I believe that this would be a reach at this spot.  They could look at OLB and pick up Missouri's Sean Witherspoon.  Witherspoon had a good combine and has all the ability to be a great player at the NFL level.  This would also be a better fit for this mid first round spot.  Another option could be the number 1 TE in the draft class, Oklahoma's Jermaine Gresham.  This though may also be a slight reach, I therefore believe Sean Witherspoon will be the pick.

There are only 7 days until we announce the 'UK's Team'.  So make sure you go and vote on the right hand side of this screen, don't let your team down.  Also email your Mock Drafts to nflgbview@googlemail.com for a chance to win a spot in the 'UK's Best Fan' Fantasy Football competition.  You get a point for every correct player drafted at the draft position (not to team, as teams may trade picks)  The person with the most picks at the end wins a place in the fantasy football league.  Good luck everyone!!
